Dominican & Franciscan Youth appreciate Jesus in the Eucharist at a Retreat

The 21st Uzima International Eucharistic Centered Retreat was held at St. Anne’s Girl’s Secondary School, in Bungoma Diocese of Kenya Friday 15th December 2017 to Sunday, 17th December 2017 through the facilitation and good collaboration of both the Dominican and the Franciscan Family.

Our Dominican Laity and the Franciscan Secular were on the fore-front in all the planning.  The Franciscan Youth Movement (YOUFRA) and the Dominican Youth Movement (DYM) were represented by members from Uganda and Kenya. The Franciscan Sisters, Franciscan Friars and Br. Charles Kato O.P and Br. Steve Sese O.P helped to facilitate the retreat.

Activities included praise and worship, periods of meditation, talks / catechesis on various topics, daily celebration of mass, Sacrament of Reconciliation, Eucharist Exposition and all night adoration, On the last day, we had a colorful procession led by the different members of the Legionary groups. Crowning Mary, the youth sung and danced holding the statute of Our Lady which they later placed beside the altar. Overall, there was a lot  of  joy, amazement, and satisfaction among all the participants.

This idea for a Eucharistic Centered Retreat was originally conceived by Pope John Paul II at his 15th World Youth Day in Rome when he urged all the world youth to “Set the Eucharist at the center of their personal lives and community life: love the Eucharist, adore the Eucharist, and celebrate the Eucharist. ”  Therefore, in line with Pope John Paul’s II vision, our aim is to promote among the youth personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the love and devotion to the Eucharist.

Our 2018 retreat will be in December 14th – 16th.
