St. Martin de Porres Dominican priory is located in Kanyakwar village, Kisumu County, Kenya. It is the first Priory to be erected in the Eastern African Dominican Vicariate.
The priory also serves as an initial formation house, Novitiate, for the vicariate. As such, you would expect to find an amicable blend of Novice Friars and Senior Friars, engaged in studies and teaching, among other apostolates as well as keeping a lively community rooted in prayer and contemplation, particularly the daily mass and the divine office (Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, Midday Prayer and Rosary, Evening Prayer and Night Prayer).
Also attached to the community is St. Catherine’s Dominican Retreat House, which serves as an apostolate and outreach ministry for the Friars. Through this project, they share with the surrounding community the fruit of their contemplation, bestowed upon them by Divine Grace.
Presently Community membership is as follows:
|1||Lumala, Stephen Ouma||Prior|
|2||Ssemugabi, John Baptist Mary Atwoki||Master of Novices and House Lector|
|3||Maturi, John Alexander Gregory||Retreat House Administrator and House Syndic|
|4||Kraft, Tomas Kevin||Retreat House Administrator and Librarian|
|6||Sphiwe, Oscar Khayelihle Mjugu||Novice Friar (Vice-Province of Southern Africa)|
